Gameday, Home Opener 2022
I hope the Dawgs put more effort into the game than I did into this post.
Recognizing that my last two posts have been about college football (and that my next one probably will as well) I'm going to run the risk of creating the misimpression that this is a college football blog. In my defense, it's early in the season and my excitement level is still high, and this past week much of my writing has been for work, so I only have this small window to write. After all, it's gameday, and there are gameday parties to attend.
Presently, I am waiting on my betrothed to finish getting ready, and since this is an exercise in trying to write daily, I'm dialing this post up. I'm pretty much mailing this in, so forgive me for that, and for any grammatical errors and misspellings that go along with it. As I write Texas is tied with Alabama, something I'm surprised by and certainly don't expect to last. However, UT, you have to play Bama for four quarters, and their backups are better than yours. This will probably miss the publishing deadline for the dawgbone, too, so if you see it after the game, well, thanks to Deke for positing and know these predictions were written before. And hopefully come true.
Georgia plays Sanford today which isn't much of a challenge-except for that long snapper, of course. I considered attending school at Sanford, and their mascot is the bulldogs, so I feel a bit bad for the bloodbath they are likely to be subjected to today. For half a million dollars, though, I'd let someone beat the hell out of me for three hours. It's our home opener, which does create some excitement for me, and I'm looking forward to watching it from my great seats at the local pub, which is more affordable than actually attending the game (a post for another time).
My expectations for the game are that Georgia will use run some different passing plays in the first half to get some live action experience with the playbook, but nothing too crazy. I also expect us to mix in some running plays to try to get that cranked up more than we did last week. Hopefully we are on the backups somewhere in the second quarter, and have cleared the bench by the fourth.
Defensively I expect us to be aggressive with the front seven, and go man to man in the secondary to create some turnovers. We should be able to stuff the run and get some three and outs, giving the offense good field position and plenty of opportunity to put points on the board. I'm not sure if we will get the shutout, though, because I expect the scout team to be on the field by the fourth.
Part of the reason I'm posting so late is because I'm hoping this optimistic prediction avoids the eyes of the football gods until it is too late for them to smite me and the Bulldog Nation for overconfidence. The abused inner child who lived through the Goff/Donnan era (and all the inexplicable losses and lackadaisical efforts against inferior opposition of the Richt Era) is screaming at me not to tempt fate. And against South Carolina next week, I certainly won't. But I'm not sure even the football gods can help poor Sanford today. If we screw this up, I guess you can blame me.
My fiancée is almost ready, and there is beer to drink and football to watch. And somehow Bama and Texas are tied. I have a feeling the second half won't be as fun for UT. Enjoy your gameday, and may your soup be warm, your beer cold, and your bar tab affordable. And Go Dawgs!
